All I wanted was to be like Katniss

My son and I are taking an archery class. Me, because I really want to be like Katniss from The Hunger Games. My son because he idolizes Hawk Eye from The Avengers. My husband actually owns a bow and arrows, although he hasn’t used them in a decade, and he would love for archery to become a family hobby for us. Plus, we’re practicing defending ourselves for the upcoming zombie apocalypse.

Little did I know, however, that bow strings are lethal. I mean, seriously! With all the rules about firing lines, keeping arrows pointed forward, etc… you’d think it would be the arrows that would injure.

Nope. Bow string.

I’m sure it has NOTHING to do with the fact that I’m a novice and don’t know how to keep my elbow turned out and don’t own an arm guard. Just like I’m sure it was complete beginners luck that my 9 year old shot several bulls eyes while I tried to just hit the target anywhere.

Watch out world. When those zombies come (or the Reaping), the Super Family is gonna be lethal!

  1. Well, at least if you get the elbow thing all sorted out! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I remember getting those bruises from camp as a kid. Not fun!! My husband bow hunts every now and again and this Christmas, we’ve actually bought junior compound bows for the girls, too, so it will be an almost-family pastime… I don’t have my own bow yet! (and I’m nowhere near strong enough to pull The Man’s!)

  2. I’m a Katniss fan too! In fact, I was in Walmart the other day doing some Christmas shopping in the toy section and saw a Katniss doll!! I audibly gasped and almost bought it for myself—(I do own a mockingjay pin). I just might break down and buy it after the holidays—it’s almost as cool as my WonderWoman doll!! Sorry about your bruises–keep practicing…and may the odds be ever in your favor!!! Rose (www.speechsnacks.com)

  3. How cool that you’re doing this together! I tried archery at Boy Scout camp with T years ago–it’s much harder than it looks.

  4. Like the first commenter, I remember getting those bruises at camp. At least this is less lethal than a broken foot! ๐Ÿ™‚
