A Starry Summer

The Star Wars saga continues in the Super house. But I have to admit that I’m enjoying it.

At his first Disney visit, The Flash refused to volunteer for Jedi Academy, but he did spend his yard sale money on a rockin 2-sided make-your-own light saber (which he proudly swung around the park for the rest of the day).

And he used his mad skillz to fight his Padawan friends at his Star Wars birthday party.

And destroyed the Death Star (pinata),

And devoured Tie Fighters (cupcakes).

We continue to have ethical debates with our now-7-year-old about “no guns” and “killing is bad” as he pretends to laser blast the entire family. Suggestions?

  1. Haha! I love the Death Star pinata. Awesome.

I used to question the same thing with my boys. But honestly, we never gave them toy guns and they would pick up sticks and use them as guns. It is crazy. In their DNA or something. Plus, I always used to play with toy guns and such when I was younger and I’m a very peaceful person. ๐Ÿ˜‰
As long as my boys know that there is a difference between pretending you are a character from a movie and being violent and crazy in real life (which they do know the difference) all is well. ๐Ÿ™‚
    Let him have at it!

  2. That’s got to be the coolest birthday party ever!
    Awesome!

I laughed to read Kat’s comment. It was true for us as well. No guns, yet they’d make them out of everything–from chicken nuggets to Popsicle sticks. Our “only kill robots” rule worked for a good while. At least it made me feel better.

  3. My solution was to give up. It’s just so hard to fight–unless you want to move to a commune in Humboldt or something and then there would be all the drugs.

My boys are 17 and 20 and they are fairly peaceful guys–despite the guns, knives and light sabers.

  4. I like that pinata, and the cupcakes.

As far as guns and violence goes, we decided to let our son have his ‘fantasy violence’ with light sabers, laser guns and mutant claws etc…. but draw the line at realistic guns, swords and knives.

  5. wow! I want you to come to my house and plan my birthday party, but only if you bring a light saber. that is so cool

  6. Death Star pinata! I love that.

I have no suggestions on toy gun situations but with my Godson we really drew the line and never bought any. Of course his supply of laser blasters, daggers and swords was endless.

Hope your summer is going good.

  7. Looks like he had an awesome party! What is it with boys and the fascination with weapons? Even my four year old loves the whole sword fighting thing. I don’t even know where he got it from. ๐Ÿ˜›
