The Parrot Tico Tango
In the spirit of summer, I will again be discussing a book with a tropical theme. The Parrot Tico Tango is full of fantastically bold pictures making me wish for a nice day. This greedy bird swoops through the air snatching, grabbing, and stealing tropical fruits from other rain forest animals. In the end, the parrot has to learn the lesson that being greedy doesn’t pay off.
Speech Therapy Ideas:
1. This book adds a rhyming verse on each page. Have your child fill in the rhyming word (with or without prompts) to work on phonics skills.
2. The synonyms in this book are fabulous. Tico Tango steals, snatches, grabs, pilfers. Talk about synonyms. What other synonyms can you think of? What are different ways of saying that you are tired? hungry? moving quickly?
3. Describe the pictures, the colors, and the animals. Use many words!
4. Talk about the moral of the book. Why doesn’t being greedy pay off for Tico Tango? When do you want to be greedy? How might that work out?
I am going to have to get this book! Thanks for the ideas. This is one blog that I have to link to….
