Great simple game for special needs kids
After giving my asssistant a vague description of what I wanted, she created this game board. I LOVE it! She created “players” that are popular icons: Spiderman, Transformers, My Little Pony, Princesses, etc and velcroed and put male velcro on the back of them (male velcro is, um, the pokey side). Then she made this awesome rainbow game board filled with clear rectangles, each having a piece of female velcro on it. The game is played by spinning a spinner or tossing a coin and moving a few spaces at a time. As simple as it is, the kids love it because they get to be their favorite toy/character.
This game is great for very young children, as well as those with fine motor or visual difficulties because it eliminates the needs of carefully placing a piece on a board and hoping the pice doesn’t fall over. Also, it is very clear who is winning and by how much. Other popular children’s games (Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, etc) may be difficult for students to keep their players upright, to know where to go, to know who is in the lead, etc.
