The miracle of the tape recorder

And it is a miracle for kids working on speech sounds. Sit a child down with a cheapo tape recorder and a blank cassette. Have them talk. Rewind and have them listen to themselves. Rate themselves. How did they sound? What words were good. What words were not so good. Repeat. Do this daily for their speech homework words.

Kids usually love to tape themselves and get so much great information from this type of feedback and self-analysis.

  1. Wow! What a great learning tool that is! Do you do a lot of work with children with hearing problems? I originally learned sign language because I had a preschooler entering my class that had hearing loss. It was a great experience working with him and learning great skills from him! Anyways, I will be checking your blog out a lot now! Good stuff!

  2. Hi Miche! I’ve worked with a handful of children with hearing loss. I think I currently work with 4 or 5 children with hearing loss. One of these children also has Downs Syndrome and ASL was his first language (he is primarily verbal now).

  3. That is a really neat idea. I’m going to have to get one for Aidan. He’d love it! :o)
