Social Stories are a tool for teaching social skills to children with autism and related disabilities. Social stories provide an individual with accurate information about those situations that he may find difficult or confusing… The goal of the story is to increase the individual’s understanding of, make him more comfortable in, and possibly suggest some appropriate responses for the situation in question.
Some students with Autism respond very well to social stories. I have one student that loves all vehicles. We created this story for him to help him get through assignments and activities that he does nto like. He reads it every morning so that it becomes an automatic part of his thinking. When he repeats the social story in his head, he is able to remember that fun things will be coming soon. This helps releive his anxiety and get through the non-preferred activity.
