Pooh Bear’s adoption day

Here are 2 stories about my kids and their favorite stuffed animals.

My son loves to pretend it’s someone’s birthday. His animals seem to have a birthday every few weeks and their ages are randomly chosen (3 one week and 7 the next). We sing Happy Birthday and eat pretend cake and blow out a pretend candle. Last week, however, he created a new celebration. He announced, “Tomorrow is Pooh Bear’s Adoption Day!” This is a little strange since we never call it “Adoption Day” in our home. We celebrate our kids “Family Day” or the day we became a family. Their legal adoption day is actually almost a year later.

I asked my son what we should do for Pooh Bear’s Adoption Day. He replied, “Go out to dinner and then get ice cream.” Of course.

My daughter’s favorite toy is called “Hippo” (I do realize we are not terribly creative with our names). She also has a newer stuffed animal that we have named “Violet” or “Violet Hippo”, bought as a fill-in when we went on vacation and forgot Hippo. Yesterday she wanted to tell me something about Hippo, but just to clarify she called her “Regular Hippo” so we’d know which one. LOL!!!

Edited at 5:10 pm: My daughter is currently in the kitchen singing “Happy Birthday to Regular Hippo. Happy Birthday to Regular Hippo. Happy Birthday dear Regular Hippo….. Happy Birthday to Regular Hippo!”

  1. you will have to read him the original Winnie the Pooh in there they celebrate an unbirthday. And how funny that you daughter made she to distinguish between the “regular hippo” and violet hippo.

One thing I did to get more activity on my board was to go visit someone else’s blog roll and just pop on some random pages and leave comments

  2. Sweet story. I like your “w” word. That makes me laugh. Hope you have a great day! =)

  3. I guess we aren’t to clever with the names either…Miss Peach’s fav. is an elephant named Misses E. Cute story:)

  4. You won me over just with the post title. We love Pooh Bear over here. And we aren’t too clever with the stuffed animal names either … the Tongginator loves “Doggy”

  5. Awwww. It’s nice to get to know you and your kids better.

  7. You must have seen my own comment whore posts from this weekend! I NEED NEED NEED comments!

Look, hubby is in Iraq, and it’s not like I’m gettin’ any . . . so I have to get my thrills where I can. I’m one cheap floozy.

  8. I just found your blog today (through Trish Marie) and am so happy to have found you. I’m going to enjoy going through your archives in the speech section as my 2.5 year old will be in speech for years to come and I could use as many ideas as I can find. Thanks for sharing your expertise!

  9. Very sweet CC. Love knowing more about the kiddos.

My daughter’s beloved bear is “bear-bear.”

    My son’s is “Mr. Owl.”

    🙂

  10. Commenting and asking to exchange links is the best way to encourage readership. Entrecard is also a great way to gain exposure to your blog. :o)

  11. hee hee! Today, my younger one was taking the Sesame Street characters we used on his birthday cupcakes and was putting them in these footed silicone baking cups we have. He then started singing “Happy happy…” (he can’t sing the whole song yet). He kept bringing me one and wanting be to “blow” it out. Funny how young kids are so eager/excited about birthdays… changes a lot when you get in your 30’s!

  12. I e-mailed a link to your blog to my Education professors, and the 32students in my Cohort (before you wrote this). I think you have amazing info for present and future teachers.

I love to hear the personal stories too.

  13. I love that. It’s interesting to hear your son using his own experience to create a new celebration.

I’m all for creative naming. Ellie has ‘Duck’. Apparently the noise Duck makes is ‘duck, duck’. We are working on the ‘qua’ sound.

  14. Happy birthday, Regular Hippo and Happy adoption day, Pooh! Sounds like a week-long celebration to me!!!!

  15. Peter’s favorite animals are “School Puppy” and “Tiger” — not too creative here, either 🙂

  16. Yep, we have ‘Tigger’s birthday’ regularly! (‘Tigger’ is a tiger in case it isn’t obvious enough!)

  17. I love reading your blog but personal stories do make it more fun/sweet/personal/warmer. I am adopted too (you read something about it on my blog and commented) Maybe writing some stories about the feelings you have about being a Mom who adopted, would be good. I know I would like to read them anyway. 🙂

I do think you have Super Powers by the way!

P.S. I moved up the drawing for the free t-shirt from May 31st to April 30th. I don’t know what the heck I was thinking when I wrote May 31st. 🙂 You are entered. Thanks for stopping by! Trish

  18. Love, love the “regular” hippo!! We use “regular” all the time around here. It started by accident because I was searching for a word one day and hesitated to use “normal” so now regular has become a standard way of describing things. 🙂

BTW, I think the addition of some personal stuff is great. And applicable comments on other blogs is an awesome way to reach out to people who may be interested in what you are doing here.
