Module 1, Lesson 1: Goals

Welcome to our very first lesson! I am so excited that you are here and joining me on this organizational journey! I know that if we dream big and keep working at it, we will make it to our goals.

Goals… that is the topic of this lecture. We all came to this class because we want to improve on something. Maybe you are a new speech pathologist and don’t even know where to start. Maybe you have been winging it for years. Or possibly the field has just changed so much over the years that you need a new system. It is time to figure out what to focus on for this class and this year.

We will be using the workbook for this lesson.

1. Goal areas. Use the Possible Goal Areas page to mark what you need help with and what you are good at. Which areas are particularly affecting your job and quality of life?

2. Prioritize. Based on your ratings, as well as your professional judgment, decide on three main areas in which you want to improve.

3. Goal statements. Use the Goal Planner to create goal statements in the present tense as if you have already accomplished them. These goals should be specific, measurable, realistic, and include a present tense action verb. Imagine where you are by the end of the year and write your goal that way. Repeat it to yourself often. Think, act, become!

4. Action steps. Brainstorm action steps you might take to reach these goals. If you aren’t sure, ask others for help or hang out and see what you learn during this course!

5. Supports. List out the supports and materials/tools you will need.

You have got this! You are off to a great start.
