They used to hate sand

The first time my son touched sand, he immediately recoiled his feet and started whimpering.

On my daughter’s first beach trip, she stayed resolutely on the blanket. Except for occasional taste testing.

Now they dig and explore. The Flash even tried sandboarding.

But Mommy? Whenever I am in the sand, I have flashbacks to high school swim team. Running up and down the San Francisco sand dunes beneath the Golden Gate Bridge. Steep sand dunes. Very steep. Sand in my shoes. Sand in my eyes. Sand encrusted on my hands. Yah, sand and I aren’t the best buds.

Is it any wonder that I never did the get the kids a sand box? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. I’m not a big lover of the sand either. It’s why I only occasionally take my kids to the beach even though it’s relatively close. I LOVE this picture so much!

  3. Gorgeous picture! My kids were the same way … at first … now, they practically bury themselves in sand, purposely pouring it on any spot that isn’t already covered! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Tongginator HATED sand, too. It took a lot of work to get her to love it. Now she practically rubs it all over her body. Me? I’ll never get there. Ewww…

  9. Yeah…sand gets everywhere, but it sure tires them out…and that’s a good thing in my book;)

The only sand I really hate? The kind that gets in your bathing suit bottoms when a wave tosses you back on the beach! Yuck!

  11. I love sand at the beach but HAAAAATE it in the home. But it seems no matter how much I hose the kids off after a beach trip we still manage to bring bucket loads inside with us. *sigh*

  14. No sandbox here either :). We took the boys to a “dinosaur dig” once at a children’s museum and Bitty kept to the very edge, doing everything he could to not actually have to touch any sand…

  15. My daughter is the opposite. She used to love playing in the sand. We had a lot of fun in her little turtle sand box. Now, she hates touching it. She can’t stand how it sticks to everything. I still like playing in the sand box, though. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Too funny! I don’t care for it so I remind myself of it’s exfoliating properties. My children? Dive headfirst into sand. Weirdos.

  17. Sand is a come and go thing for me. I enjoy it most of the time but there are times where I wish the beaches were nice and paved. lol! Lovely capture!
