Living out my dream?

As a teenager, my dream career was to be a Marine Biologist. I chose my college with this major in mind.

I had pre-selected my graduate school at age 17.

And then my course load forced me to choose between a teacher’s certification in Biology and a Marine Biology degree. And a handsome young man enamored me and I no longer wanted to travel across the country to graduate school.

Life happened. And I do not regret the career path that ensued–for I love my career in speech.

But maybe, just maybe, our Mini-Me will live out my once-dream.

Or maybe not.

This morning he said he wanted to be a dentist. Just like Super-Grandma.

  3. It seems like lots of us wanted to be Marine Biologists when we were younger. I grew up snorkling near the beaches of Puerto Rico and was sure that is what I would do. But I became a nurse and now teach.

  4. I love hearing what my kids want to be. I always thought I wanted to be a teacher, but never earned my certificate. Maybe one day when the kids are older.

  11. What a wonderful photo!

My oldest son wants to be a marine biologist. We took him to Sea World last year for his birthday and he was picked to be the kid on stage with Shamu. It was all a coincidence, they didn’t know it was his birthday or that he wanted to be a marine biologist but it was an amazing day for him.

  12. I was sure I would swim with dolphins at some point in my life. Little did I realize at the time that doing that also meant cleaning the pool. And touching fish.

The Flash looks as cute as always in that photo. Tell that boy that dentists are among the most hated people in society. Tell him that fish smell isn’t so bad. And that dolphins are cool.

  13. Gorgeous shot!

Isn’t it nice how things work out sometimes despite all of our plans?

  23. What a gorgeous photo.

The great thing about being a kid is that EVERYTHING is possible.

  24. Isn’t that one of the reasons to have kids, so they can do all the things in life that we didn’t and we get to live through them? Huh, I thought it was.

  25. Wellllll, guess what? My son might live out your dream for you. How’s that?

  26. I can’t help it, everytime I hear “marine biologist” I think of Seinfeld!! Now I am envisioning you standing on top of a whale pulling a golf ball out of the blow hole…LOL!!

After all that….I hope you watched Seinfeld, otherwise you have no clue what I am talking about!!

    Enjoy your weekend!
