Here are 2 stories about my kids and their favorite stuffed animals.
My son loves to pretend it’s someone’s birthday. His animals seem to have a birthday every few weeks and their ages are randomly chosen (3 one week and 7 the next). We sing Happy Birthday and eat pretend cake and blow out a pretend candle. Last week, however, he created a new celebration. He announced, “Tomorrow is Pooh Bear’s Adoption Day!” This is a little strange since we never call it “Adoption Day” in our home. We celebrate our kids “Family Day” or the day we became a family. Their legal adoption day is actually almost a year later.
I asked my son what we should do for Pooh Bear’s Adoption Day. He replied, “Go out to dinner and then get ice cream.” Of course.
My daughter’s favorite toy is called “Hippo” (I do realize we are not terribly creative with our names). She also has a newer stuffed animal that we have named “Violet” or “Violet Hippo”, bought as a fill-in when we went on vacation and forgot Hippo. Yesterday she wanted to tell me something about Hippo, but just to clarify she called her “Regular Hippo” so we’d know which one. LOL!!!
Edited at 5:10 pm: My daughter is currently in the kitchen singing “Happy Birthday to Regular Hippo. Happy Birthday to Regular Hippo. Happy Birthday dear Regular Hippo….. Happy Birthday to Regular Hippo!”
