Who am I?

I started this post today in an effort to join into the blogging community. I’ve maintained a family blog for almost 2 years, but for privacy reasons, I’m hesitant to open it up to the entire world wide web. So, I’ve created this!

Why Super Powers? At home I call myself Super Mommy, but in truth my “powers” extend far beyond my home. I work full time in a school in special education. I have a small side business in my area of specialty (Speech Pathology), I am active in the adoption community, and I am active within my church. Since this is MY blog, and I get to call myself whatever I like, I hereby dub myself “Super Woman”!

Like all good super-hero-wanna-bes, my family members need alias names. So my husband shall be called “Mr. Mom”. Mr. Mom is a stay at home dad, part time student (he’s been working on his first Master’s degree for the last 7 years and then is going to pursue another!), and part time web designer. He is also, unfortunetly, in chronic pain. This means that I usually do not come home to a spotless home, well-prepared dinner, and a gin and tonic. ๐Ÿ™‚ It usually means that he has done whatever he could during the day to keep the family functioning, including taking our son to preschool, making sure the kids don’t kill each other, and feeding the kids at least one meal. Therefore, when I come home I add the super power of “Super Mommy” to my list of titles.

My kids are harder to name with Super Hero names. I was thinking about calling my son “Speed” because he is so fast physically and mentally, but that brings up ideas of Sandra Bullock, busses, and drugs. I could call him “Princess” because he loves to dress up in dresses and Princess clothes, but that may be pre-determining personality traits that I’m just not ready to predetermine. I think for now I’ll settle on “Amazing Boy”, allbeit boring, because he is pretty amazing!

My daughter is just the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. We’re going to have to hold back the boys one day. She is usually quite happy and loves to follow her brother around. She is also quite the clutz. I think of her like a “blonde” Asian (if you follow the sterotypes). So I will call her “Tipsy” with only cuteness intended.

Does this really describe us? I don’t know. We may go through ceremonial name changes over time as our descriptions change. If you know us, what do you think?
